What Would You Say If You Discovered That Your Child’s Teacher Has a Criminal Past?

Imagine finding out that your child’s teacher had their teaching license revoked in another state because they were busted for sexting a student, or physically abusing a child, or was busted in a child porn sting–what would you say and do?

You would possibly rush to the school principal and begin asking a list of questions such as, “how is it possible that this teacher was eligible to teach again?”, “why didn’t a background check uncover this fact before this teacher was hired?”, and “did you know about this teacher’s past before or after hiring them?”

You probably have plenty of additional questions that you would ask.

USA TODAY NETWORK conducted an investigation and discovered a major flaw in the teacher screening systems used across the U.S. by more than 13,000 school districts. By looking at the databases of certified teachers and disciplined teachers, their research uncovered that:

  • Thousands of disciplined teachers were not reported by states to a privately run database which also happens to be the nation’s only centralized system for tracking teacher discipline.
  • At least 9,000 educators who were disciplined by state officials are missing from the non-profit clearinghouse, National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification. At least 1,400 of those educators licenses had been permanently revoked, and at least 200 of those revocations were due to allegations of physical or sexual abuse.
  • State systems used to check teachers background are plagued by inconsistencies, and this flaw has led to numerous instances of schools not finding out about criminal convictions until after the teacher is already hired and working in the classroom.

Due to their investigation there are a few states who are conducting internal investigations and audits.

Although the number of “problematic” teachers is minuscule (there are more than 3 million teachers in the U.S. and less than 1% have faced disciplinary action) there is still reason to be concerned about this flawed screening system—parents send their children to school with the belief that they will be safe and in no direct threat of predators and abusers of any kind.

Unlike the United Kingdom (and some other countries) the U.S. federal government does not mandate teacher background checks or make sure that states share information about severe abuse cases. This has been left up to states to handle. With so many people screaming “less big government”, it would be interesting to see if they still only want the states left with the responsibility of protecting their children.

The USA TODAY NETWORK investigation uncovered a great deal of information that you should read and share with others. Read more about this investigation here: http://www.usatoday.com/longform/news/2016/02/14/broken-discipline-tracking-system-lets-teachers-with-misconduct-records-back-in-classroom/79999634/

If Ever You Think Donald Trump Makes Enough Sense to Vote For Him…

If ever you get caught up in the Trump web and begin to believe his words about “the problem“, “making America great again“, “tremendous harm“, “tremendous danger“, “tremendous threat” or anything else “tremendous” please remember that he is first and foremost a salesman, and will use his last breath trying to sell you something.

Politifact stays on top of fact-checking what Politicians say, and boy howdy have they had an interesting time tracking the so-called “facts” that Donald Trump repeats in interviews, rallies, debates, on his website, and of course on Twitter. Here’s what they have reported:

ONLY two of Donald Trump’s statements have been proven as truth:

  1. The U.S. “doesn’t make television sets anymore”
  2. American polls shows that Russian President Vladimir Putin has “an 80% approval rating”

Trump has ONLY had 7 Mostly True statements and 16 Half-True statements.

And then comes the mostly-false and false statements, and the flat-out lies…

  • Mostly-false statements total 19 (but I’m sure the number is even higher as of today)
  • 46 false statements (once again…today the number is probably higher)
  • 21 blatant lies [Politifact calls it “Pants on Fire” and by now, Trump has probably doubled this number]

Of the 21 blatant lies, let’s see how many of them (12 listed below) that you believed (or still believe) to be true:

If this doesn’t open your eyes, maybe these two videos will help you see the truth about Trump the chump…

And then look at these two videos…

If that doesn’t wash your brain from Trump’s hard selling tactics, then you really may be a “lost cause” and so desperate that you will vote for any loud mouth who wants to “make America great again” or better yet who says, “I love the old days, you know? You know what I hate? There’s a guy totally disruptive, throwing punches. We’re not allowed to punch back anymore … I love the old days. You know what they used to do to guys like that when they were in a place like this? They’d be carried out on a stretcher, folks…

Voting in Favor of Bombing “Agrabah”, a Fake Disney Country: The Lows of Islamophobia

When we still had 14 candidates running in the GOP Primary, here’s where our country stood as it dealt with Islam and Muslims [December 2015 Public Policy Polling]…

  • 46% supported a national database of Muslims, to only 37% opposed.
  • 54% supported Trump’s proposed Muslim ban, to only 25% who opposed it.
  • 36% thought thousands of Arabs in New Jersey cheered when the World Trade Center collapsed to 35% who didn’t think that happened.
  • Only 28% of GOP primary voters went so far as to think mosques in the United States should be shut down to 47% who were opposed to that.
  • Overall 53% of primary voters thought Islam should be allowed to just 26% who didn’t think it should be. Just 33% of Trump supporters thought Islam should be legal to 42% who thought it should be illegal.

Looking specifically at Trump’s supporters on two other heavy topics:

  • 41% of his voters thought Japanese internment was a good thing, to 37% who didn’t.
  • 41% of his supporters would favor bombing Agrabah to only 9% who were opposed to doing that.

Agrabah is the country from the Disney animated movie, Aladdin.

More polling about Agrabah:

Overall 30% of Republican primary voters said they supported bombing Agrabah to 13% who were opposed.

But let’s be clear…Islamophobia isn’t just a GOP issue, Public Policy Polling asked the same question of Democrats, and 36% of them opposed bombing Agrabah to 19% who were in support.

You did just read that Agrabah is a fake Disney country, correct? If you don’t believe me, then look on a globe, map, or just Google it… A-G-R-A-B-A-H.

Which makes me wonder where the country stands now with four remaining GOP candidates in the running, and the frontrunner spewing so much hate about Islam, Muslims, and Immigration (and Rubio and Cruz sharing similar sentiments)–have these numbers increased, decreased, or remained steady when it comes to Muslims?…

Watch this video to hear someone’s commentary about this poll and what it says about our country, the hypocrisy of those who claim to know and support the US Constitution, and the hypocrisy of those who want constitutional freedoms to only apply to “us” and not “them”. When the word “terrorist” is only aligned with a Muslim-sounding name, we’re in huge trouble.

We’re in a sad state of affairs right now people. Our country is divided based on color, race, religion, and class. The “land of the free and home of the brave” is clearly shifting to the “land of the enslaved and home of the ignorant”. Some people are mentally, spiritually, financially, and physically enslaved in the US, and the comments that we hear from GOP candidates and their supporters prove that there are large numbers of people walking around blindly ignorant–and like the flu, it is contagious!
